A new phase has begun in the Andijan region for the implementation of the project “Climate-Resilient Water Supply and Sanitation Services,” aimed at increasing the sustainability of the region’s infrastructure to climate change and ensuring the population stable access to clean drinking water.
The project is being implemented with the support of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and “Uzsuvtaminot” JSC.
The following measures are envisioned within the framework of the project:
• Construction and reconstruction of key water supply facilities;
• Erection of new treatment and filtration plants;
• Modernization of pumping stations and reservoirs;
• Introduction of energy-efficient technologies and water purification systems.
These measures will not only improve the quality of drinking water but also make the water supply system more resilient to droughts and climate risks, which is especially relevant for the densely populated regions of the Fergana Valley.
As part of the project, on October 31, NBT Group specialists began a series of socio-economic surveys in the Andijan region. Field studies are being conducted among land users whose plots may be temporarily involved during the construction work.
“We believe that the success of the project depends not only on engineering solutions but also on transparent communication with the population and all stakeholders. People must understand the goals of the modernization and see its long-term benefits,” noted NBT Group specialists.
The questionnaires developed for the surveys include questions about crops, buildings, family composition, and the economic situation of the respondents. The data obtained will allow for the assessment of the project’s possible impact and the development of fair compensation mechanisms, should they be required.
The “Climate-Resilient Water Supply and Sanitation Services” project is an investment in the ecological and social sustainability of the region. Its implementation will help reduce water resource loss, improve sanitary conditions, and create reliable infrastructure for future generations.
