On June 18-19, a group of NBT experts together with HPBS conducted a two-day training on the subject of “Calculation, optimization, and compensation of greenhouse gas emissions according to the best international practices.” The training took place as part of the ADB “Livestock Value Chain Development Project”.
The first day of the training included topics such as climate hazards, main international climate change agreements, standards and protocols used to compute greenhouse gas emissions, including ISO 14064 and GHG Protocol. In a separate block, concerns about climate change, adaptation, and sustainable development in arid climatic conditions of Uzbekistan were also discussed. During the practical training, under the guidance of the lecturers, the participants made calculations of the greenhouse gas emissions resulting from the combustion of natural gas using the Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3 systems.
The participants continued with practical activities employing contemporary ICT on the second day of the program. Using the PERIX platform online, the participants made greenhouse gas calculations for various fields of activity: energy, chemical industry, housing complex and other options included in the PERIX platform. Additionally, on the same day, lectures were given on the verification and the calculation of carbon footprints, and green energy certificates for the reporting of greenhouse gases.
A test was administered at the conclusion of the training. Based on the results of the test, each participant who successfully completed the course received a certificate.
