Within the framework of an “International Environmental Impact Assessment” project of the World Bank, NBT team visited 5 regions: Surkhandarya, Kashkadarya, Namangan, Bukhara and Republic of Karakalpakstan. It is planned to rehabilitate number of canals in these regions which are: Esymuzak and Kuanishjarma Canals in the Republic of Karakalpakstan, Zang in Surkhandarya, Pakhtaabad in Kashkadarya Region, Khayrobod, Shuhrad and Romatin canals in Bukhara, North Fergana Canal in Namangan.
NBT team implemented a review of the existing environmental documentation of the canals and the environment in the canal area. Conducted several meetings with residents, local communities, water resources organizations in regions and a general overview of the condition of canals were also held.
